Firefighters Join School News Broadcast for Fire Safety Education
FLFD Station 3 Visit MBN News
In an exciting and educational event, firefighters from Fort Liberty Fire and Emergency Services participated in a special edition of our school news broadcast. The visit aimed to educate students about fire safety, not only at school but also at home. This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme is, “Smoke Alarms: Make them work for you!”
Firefighter Farr and Firefighter Gerity emphasized the importance of fire safety practices. They discussed several key topics, including:
- Smoke Detectors: The importance of having smoke detectors in the home, especially in bedrooms.
- Monthly Testing: The need to test smoke detectors monthly to ensure they are working properly.
- Family Escape Plans: Knowing and practicing family escape plans in case of a fire. Just like schools do with monthly fire drills.
- Bedroom Safety: Keeping bedroom doors closed to prevent the spread of fire.
- Fire Extinguishers: Having a fire extinguisher in the home and knowing how to use it.
- Emergency Information: Knowing what information to provide when calling 911.
The firefighters’ visit was a valuable opportunity for students to learn about fire safety in a fun and engaging way. Their presence not only educated but also inspired students to be more aware and prepared for fire emergencies.
