Members of our Mustang staff gathered together to reflect on their childhood as military children. Many members of our staff are veterans, are the spouses of veterans, have children or grandchildren who serve, or have parents who served before they were born.  But a few staff members were lucky enough to spend their childhood gathering memories of growing up in the military. Just like the military connected students they now support at Irwin.

Ms. Armstrong shares, "I grew up as an army brat and was born at the old Womack, then lived here in elementary school and went to Bowley.  The coolest thing was that I got to “remeet” my favorite teacher, Ms. Warren when I began teaching at Bragg."

Ms. Chavis shares, "My father was in the United States Army. I enjoyed being the daughter of a soldier in school, I was always the "new kid". Even with the many challenges, I'm so honored to have had the privilege to have a parent that has served."

Ms. Eaton shares, "I have always felt so patriotic and proud to be a military child. I went to 12 schools in 12 years and honestly feel lucky to have had that experience. I have wonderful memories of people, places, and moments thanks to my father's 27 year Army career."

Dr. Lee shares, "I feel so very fortunate to have grown up an ‘Army Brat’- it allowed me to live in many different states and attend 8 different schools. I made many friends in school while growing up and moving around and still keep in touch with many of my friends today!"
